To PTPTN borrowers who graduated with First Class Honours but not entitled to loan exemption:
All these years PTPTN borrowers were exempted from loan payment provided they graduates with a First Class Degree Honours. However, things changed in 2005. If one were to refer to PTPTN website, it was stated that "Exemption of repayment will only be considered for borrowers who obtain first class honours for loans approved prior to 1st July 2005 ONLY by submitting an application". And I was among the unfortunates.
Following the announcement of budget plan of 2010, I sincerely believed that all the university students were delighted by the news that First Class Honours graduates would be exempted from the loan repayment (again). Unfortunately, after checking with the authority from PTPTN, only graduates who complete their study in 2010 are eligible to that privilege. How could this happen? It is extremely unfair to the a few batches of students whose loan was approved after July 2005, and graduated in 2009.
In a letter I received from the office of the Higher Education Ministry recently, it was stated that: "Kementerian sedang mengkaji beberapa impak khusus kepada kerajaan apabila pengecualian daripada membayar balik pinjaman daripada PTPTN bagi pemegang Ijazah Kelas Pertama dilaksanakan. Perkara ini akan dibentangkan kepada YAB Perdana Menteri dan keputusannya akan dimaklumkan kelak."
I hereby appeal to all PTPTN borrowers who graduated with First Class Honours but not entitled to loan exemption to leave me a message, with your name/University/program/graduation year stated. I sincerely hope that we could be connected to each other via FB, united we stand and spell out our wish to be exempted from the loan repayment. I hope that we could at least put up a letter by the second week of June 2010.
Many thanks!
Best Regards,
Tracy

but then i read it online at this link(http://www.ptptn.gov.my/web/english/FAQ-english/repayment/exemption), it says that only borrowers whose loan are approved before 1 July 2005 are eligible for da exemption. My course is 3 years and i entered uni in yr 2007 july.the ptptn was approved before i entered uni.

Yes, the website is not updated yet. But as far as I concerned, last month, there was a news regarding loan repayment exemption to students who had just graduated this year (2010). Perhaps you could check news archive on this matter.

hi, so for now, anyone graduating after year 2010 is also eligible for the exemption, am i right? Thanks for the info! =)

perhaps you could update your post regarding this PTPTN, have you got your exemption?
    TraCy said...
missalishachin: I think you better check with PTPTN; As long as it is a degree, you are entitled to the exemption when u meet all the requirements. Of course, if the result is not graded by First Class/Second Class, you may need to get verification from your tertiary institution. Please see PTPTN website for details.

    Hi Nic,

Yes, all those who graduate in 2010are entitled to the exemption.

I've just called PTPTN last friday, still waiting for feedback. Apparently they did not received the feedback forwarded from the Prime Minister's Office via email. Hopefully there would be positive progress soon...

    Hi all,

Thanks for your input. Please be informed that the first appeal had been submitted to the Prime Minister's Office in late July. However, there was no news about it. I am currently working on the second appeal.

I do receive some feedbacks without details (perhaps they are not interested to be added to the name list). Kindly note that only those who had provided information on NAME/UNIVERSITY/YEAR OF GRADUATION/PROGRAMME would be listed in my appeal letter.

Appreciate if this news could be forwarded to your friends who are facing the same problem. I believe the appeal would carry more weight if we have more names.

    Many thanks.

    Regards,
    Tracy

    Hi,

Tracy I've sent you email on my details.

To all who faces the same "wrong timing" scenario,

I've appealed once by my own and it wasn't effective. If you are reading until here, I presume you face the same problem. Please make the appeal possible by dropping your details to Tracy. After all, we all deserves a scholarship!

    TraCy said...
Uhmm...I'm really not sure about the grading system in different universities. Perhaps it's better for you to refer to PTPTN authority.

i am currently applying exemption for PTPTN.

really appreciate if you can help me :)

hold on... i found out that the certs are need to be verified by IPTA/IPTS Academic Department... does that means i need to go to PTPTN to look for someone to sign for it?? can't my certs are verified by lawyer??

i will appreciate it for your answer :)

    thank you very much!!

    Hi NottyAngelWen,

    IPT = Institut Pengajian Tinggi
Certificates must be signed by the Academic Department (Department which issues your transcript/scroll) IN YOUR UNIVERSITY, not PTPTN.

    Congrats that u r exempted.

    Tracy

    Hi Tracy,

Can I know what's your exemption status now? I'm a graduate from 2008 batch (July 2005 loan borrower). I've been calling PTPTN numerous times but my status is also never exempted. Disappointed!

Hi Connie, thanks for dropping by. Well, we are working on a group appeal at the moment. This would be the third one. Further details, u may look into Facebook group "Appeal for PTPTN Repayment Exemption".
